I've recently learned something new about taking vitamin D....Most of us know we are supposed to take it daily because most are lacking but did you know that it is important to take the supplement with vitamin K2..and why?
quote-Vitamin D3 and K2 (specifically MK-7) work synergistically to manage calcium, ensuring it strengthens bones rather than calcifying arteries. D3 increases calcium absorption, while K2 activates proteins (matrix Gla protein and osteocalcin) that direct this calcium to bones/teeth. Supplementing with D3 without K2 can lead to inefficient calcium use and potential soft tissue buildup.
Key Synergies Between Vitamin D3 and K2:
Calcium Management: Vitamin D3 acts as a key for calcium absorption, while vitamin K2 acts as the transporter to ensure it reaches the skeleton.
Bone Health: The combination boosts bone density more effectively than either vitamin alone.
Cardiovascular Safety: K2 prevents the excessive accumulation of calcium in blood vessels and soft tissues that can be caused by high-dose D3.
Optimal Ratios: Because high-dose D3 increases the need for K2, they are often paired to maximize effectiveness. -end quote...
I now will only take a Vit D supplement that has k2 added. I've also learned that for every 1000IU's of vit D, the K2 should be 100-120 mcg.
